Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Is something valuable just because it’s ‘new’? Should we be ascribing better value judgements to new innovations that emerge? How should ‘progress’ be defined?
It’s common to get excited about a new innovation and there are many amazing things that fresh thinking can do to bring about new products and services to our world. But it’s important to ensure that we really are advancing humanity with those innovations and that we don’t get caught up with the ‘cult of the new’ that decrees anything new is inherently of value just because it hasn’t been done before.
True innovation moves thought and society forward in ways previously unimagined, bringing progress for all and it’s important that we maintain a critical eye over what constitutes a truly innovative idea and thought that moves us all forward in better ways than before.
And what are the qualities of a true innovator? Is it the capacity to take risk, to be comfortable with failure, to see possibilities that others can’t?
Or is it about a moving thought forward, defining progress in new ways, and having a deep love of humanity and desire to improve the world? How might those qualities be inspired in each one of us, to bring out ‘higher order’ qualities of innovation and entrepreneurship at all levels of society?
